The Summer AFL9s season kicks off again on MONDAY 30th January MONDAY 6th FEB (postponed due to flooding on field) at Wilston Grange.
This season will be an 8 week fixture and we will be running two competitions, with a Mens comp and a new "Age-Mixed" comp. Games will be in 6.10, 7.10 and 8.10pm timeslots. Cost is $800 per team for as many players as you like for the entire season and this covers field maintenance, lighting, umpires, equipment...everything! Team captains will organise with their team-mates how they collect money and arrange payment of team fee (must be paid in full by round 3).
The new "Age-Mixed" comp will run with the typical male and female team structure, but in addition, boys aged between 12 and 14 will be able to play and will be afforded the same rule interpretations as female players are in the traditional "mixed" game. This includes double points for goals, lenient marking interpretation, and number of "mixed" players required to be on the field. The whole family can now play!!
The Wilston Grange club house will again be open for a drink and post game socialising.
Team and player registration is NOW OPEN (see top of this page!) and will be restricted to the first 18 teams to sign up and pay, so team Captains should start recruiting and get signed up!

AFL 9s is the new 9-a-side, touch version of Australian football that everyone can play, now at Wilston Grange!
It is a shorter and less physically demanding version of footy that promotes social interaction, fitness and fun with your friends while incorporating all that you love about the traditional game. It is easy to learn, safe to play and lots of fun.
Distinctive features of AFL 9s include:

The game is played between two teams of nine with interchange players

The field is soccer pitch sized and is divided into three zones

Teams kick the football into their scoring zone to designated forwards who are the only players permitted to score.

A mark is awarded irrespective of the distance the ball has travelled and if the ball touches the ground it is an automatic turnover

In Queensland competitions, a two handed touch method is used to effect a 'holding the ball' decision.

In mixed competitions, three players of each gender must be on the field at all times and female goals are worth double points!
